Expressive Arts

🧿

Expressive art is a therapeutic method that puts the creative process at the center of human experience. We use art in a playful way, without expectations of certain outcomes, criticisms or evaluations. This allows us to surrender control and witness the emergence of new perspectives that can be a vital resource in opening us up to change.

I am fascinated by the simplicity of expressive arts and at the same time the profound effect. I believe that every person carries an ocean of creativity waiting to be unlocked and that your creative flow can take you to unimagined places.

There is a common misbelief that expressive arts is only for artists and children. Based on my experience, all that is required is an open and curious mind. If you don’t think that you are a creative person, let me challenge that, you might surprise yourself. If you have hit a dead-end with traditional talk therapy or struggle to understand or verbally articulate your feelings, maybe it’s time to explore other ways of expression.

My sessions are typically structured in three parts:

  • First, a check-in where you tell me what you come with, your current challenges, wishes, and goals.

  • Second, we de-center from your everyday life, or literal reality, and delve into an imaginative, sensory, or a playful experience. In this part I will select carefully the right modality and exercises for you. I use various modalities such as visual arts, poetry, clay, movement, music, voice, performance and more. No previous experience in any art form is required.

  • Lastly, we look together at what has arrived, harvest the messages it carries, and talk about how we can integrate our findings into day-to-day life.

Working in a groups brings awareness of the self in relation to others; issues of boundaries, resonance, and projections arise. This dynamic continually evolves as the group gets to know each other and feel safe to share more. We tap into the well of lived experiences of others and become inspired and touched.

About Me

My work is rooted in the trust that your innermost self wants to be seen, expressed, and lived. Through intermodal expressive arts, I create spaces where reason softens, imagination awakens, and something meaningful can emerge. In this liminal, playful territory, we often meet the insights, symbols, and inner movements that guide us toward deeper alignment.

As an expressive arts facilitator, yoga teacher, mother, and highly sensitive human being, I support people in returning to the ground of their being, to the quiet soil where seeds of truth can be felt, nurtured, and invited to grow. Creative flow has always been my way of coming home, it brings us into the present moment, into the body, into aliveness.

Although I have been close to art my entire life, I first chose a different path. I studied physics and spent over a decade working in software engineering, leading teams and navigating fast-paced environments. This chapter gave me security, resilience, and an ability to hold complexity as well as multiple burnouts and a sense of hopelessness.

Over time, a deeper inner calling began to surface. My explorations of expressive arts, yoga, Buddhism, and contemplative practices helped me reconnect with intuition, embodiment, and the creative roots I had long set aside. What emerged is the work I now offer: a fusion of creativity, presence, curiosity, and a profound respect for the human experience.

“I like your grounded and calm energy and that you can hold space with so much ease and kindness. I observed you never use a lot of words to give big impulses, that created room for freedom of creation. I also felt you were really interested
and energetically involved in the process.
Also I never felt judged and always safe to share and create. That was very important for me. Wish you all the best with your workshops and work as an expressive art facilitator. I feel this work is so important on so many levels.”

— Heike

“Thank you for the well thought out and beautifully guided workshop. It was time spent in a very relaxed and safe space, where I and the other participants could discover how our feelings speak in various creative modalities, transmuting internal ruminations, blockages or yearnings into something external that we could all witness together. It was like a tender little journey into self yet made braver by the collective creative energy and openness. 🌸🌱”

— Inese

“I wasn't sure if art therapy would be for me because I don't consider myself to be very "artistic", but Gohar made me feel at ease right away. As a first-timer, I found the group session to be an ideal introduction to art therapy, and I came out of the afternoon inspired and with a clearer picture of how I can express myself..”
