Expressive Arts Workshops for Community Spaces

Creating together. Expressing what words cannot. Finding connection.

Expressive arts create a space where participants can connect with themselves and with each other in a different way. Through painting, collage, movement, writing, sound and other creative practices, participants are invited to explore, express and create together — without needing to be “artistic” or have the right words.

Why Expressive Arts?

  • Building connection

Creating something together can open a different kind of communication. Shared creative experiences help groups find common ground, build trust and experience themselves as a community.

  • Expressing beyond words

Not everything has an easy explanation. Art can give form to feelings, thoughts and experiences that may be difficult, uncomfortable or simply impossible to put into words.

  • Bringing aliveness

Creative activity brings movement, curiosity and playfulness into a group. It can create moments of joy, lightness and hope, while also making space for deeper experiences and reflection.

  • Discovering accessible creative tools

Participants get to experiment with simple, approachable art materials and techniques such as drawing, painting, collage and mixed media. The focus is on discovering what is possible rather than on artistic skill or producing a “good” result.

  • Self-reflection & inner resources

Creative practices can become simple tools for checking in with ourselves, noticing what is present and discovering new perspectives, questions and inner resources.

  • Creative thinking & new possibilities

Making art involves experimentation, uncertainty, unexpected turns and finding new ways forward. These experiences invite flexibility, curiosity and resourcefulness: qualities that can support problem-solving, adaptability and resilience in everyday life.

Workshops can explore themes such as

  • Belonging & identity

  • Connection & friendship

  • Emotions & self-expression

  • Finding inner resources

  • Change & transitions

  • Dreams, hopes & the future

  • Body, creativity & presence

  • Conflict & different perspectives

Workshop formats

A one-time creative experience

A 1.5–3 hour workshop designed around a particular theme or group.

A series of workshops

Several sessions that allow a group to gradually build trust and explore a theme more deeply.

No previous art experience is needed

The workshops are accessible, playful and welcoming, creating space for both individual expression and shared experience.

Language

The workshops are mainly lead in english, but when needed I can adopt and add German, Russian or Armenian translations.

About the facilitator

I’m Gohar, an expressive arts facilitator based in Berlin. My approach combines visual art, movement, writing, mindfulness and other creative practices to create spaces for exploration, connection and self-expression. My work is trauma-informed and grounded in the belief that creativity is not about producing something “good” — it is a way of discovering, relating and making meaning.
